How a Norfolk Coast Road Trip Helps Me Live With Binge Eating
Most people think binge eating is beaten in the kitchen. For me, it starts on the road. In this post, I share how a Norfolk coast trip became one of my tools for living with cravings—by offering distraction, restricted access to food, and layered nourishment through movement and beauty.
For years, binge eating controlled my life. I tried strict diets, exercise plans, and willpower tactics that all left me more frustrated than before.
What finally shifted things for me wasn’t another plan. It was building a menu of tools — simple practices I could draw on to live with my cravings instead of fighting them.
One of the most powerful tools on that menu is travel.
On a recent, unplanned road trip along the Norfolk coast, I was reminded of just how effective this approach can be. Travel gives me:
- Distraction – my attention is pulled away from food and toward the coastline, the views, the journey.
- Restricted access – being on the road means food isn’t within arm’s reach, which reduces temptation.
- Layered nourishment – the movement, fresh air, and sense of curiosity all feed me in ways that food never could.
This wasn’t a polished or scripted trip. It was raw, real, and exactly how I show up in my own life. That’s why I decided to capture it on video.
At the end of the video, you’ll see a montage of memories from the day — the beauty of the Norfolk coast, and the deeper reason why moments like these keep me healthy, grounded, and free from the binge cycle.

I see travel as one option on the menu of ways to live with cravings. Some days it’s a walk. Other days it’s a project. And sometimes, it’s as simple as getting in the car and heading out to the coast.
