Santa and Hatton country park Christmas fayre
Getting out in the holiday season is an excuse for fun and for movement. This picture story shows the fun we had years ago, making memories at a wonderful Christmas fayre we found.
Always remember how easy good natural movement should be. A day out with the family often involves many movements our ancestors used to make that add to our daily diet of nutritious movement.
This was a really fun way to a lazy 8,000 steps. I basically sat down all day either in the car or in the restaurant while he was in the soft play, but I ended up with over 8000 steps, plenty of calories burnt and 42 floors climbed.
I earnt my rest in the evening. I could have been much more active but I’m so active all the time it was nice to take it easy for a day and just enjoy it all.
The fitness stats
These are the Fitbit stats I got at the end of the day. At first glance, you will notice only 8,000 steps, but if you take a closer look, you will see 42 floors! That’s a lot of climbing and something to appreciate during days out.
Often, there are steps, and climbing them is a skill you need for normal life. Going up and down stairs is similar to doing lunges in the gym, though, of course, you are doing the movements on an incline. Though you are using your legs differently and days like this develop your ability to climb stairs.
The best thing is how much fun you have using a fayre as your workout and your family as your gym buddies. You don’t have to set aside time for this type of movement, you just enjoy the day you planned.
What does help is if you plan ahead and prepare by adding enough movement to your daily life. The more varied, the better, so you are ready for all the variety that real life can throw at you.

It looks like the perfect place to mooch around and still get a good amount of exercise in, I bet you were shocked when you realised that you’d hit the 8000 mark. Your little one looks like he made the most of the play area, I love the shot from above of him walking through the net bridge. I hope you both enjoyed your day. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.
Thanks Fiona. Yes , it was a very nice surprise when I saw 8,000 steps for just mooching around.
What a lovely place for a day out! Made all the better that you hit your 8,000 steps without realising 🙂
Thanks Emma
I love Hatton, reminds me I really should get back there with Finn. Great photos and a great way to get some exercise and not even realise 🙂 #CountryKids
Thanks Lauren, it’s a great place isn’t it. Looking forward to getting back there.
