I want to be a Pilot!!! Duxford Air show 2015

Welcome to the “I want to be a Pilot!!!” series of posts where you can find out how following a love for flight can help you get healthier at the same time. I know that sounds impossible, but I’ve been doing it for years, and now you can do it too! 🙂

Flying is a hobby that helps me;

  • conquer my fear of heights,
  • learn to stay calm under pressure,
  • travel
  • have fun.

Aviation and the act of flying is really a study on keeping balance over time. From balancing the forces of gravity and inertia to create lift to a pilot keeping their head during an emergency landing.

The area of health we work on most when flying is our mental health. Staying calm while doing multiple complicated things at once is the main requirement of successful flying. Experienced pilots are always very well trained in ways to stay calm under pressure and make good decisions in tough environments.

Therefore, the main benefits to health of learning fly is developing your skills in handling stress, particularly mental and emotional stress under pressure
