Description
Physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide and one of the biggest contributors to poor health in the modern world. How could this be given the amazing progress in modern health systems? and all the scientific knowledge we have gained?
To understand this puzzle and build a life that protects us from the risks, we must first understand what activity does for us and why a lack of it is so bad. This introductory course helps you understand why physical activity is so important for us and will guide you towards enjoyable ways to become more active and reap the benefits.
The aim of the course is to highlight the need for activity and the peril to your health if you don’t get enough activity or don’t get the right activity.
It is a free short course for now. I cover 3 main sources and link to others. I summarise the facts and highlight that physical activity has more than 10 health benefits, which means that when you are physically active, you can simultaneously reduce the risk of the top 10 deadly diseases of modern life plus so much more.
I cannot stress enough how rare this is. Very few things you do today will have a greater effect on your future health than whether you are active or inactive today. The best thing is that if you do it right, physical activity is free, and it’s really, really fun.
The approach at Fit2Thrive to getting people more active is to focus on learning how to enjoy the journey. Fixing sedentary behaviour is much more than just getting up and moving because if it were that simple, everyone would do it. The truth is that there are tens if not hundreds of barriers to you being more active, and each of us needs to work through these barriers in our own time.
The best way to do that is to work through these hurdles while having fun. The reason is that we stick with the things we enjoy and drop the things we do not enjoy.
This course is part of a wider knowledge base provided by other courses. The other courses help build movement into our lives and reduce the risk of disease. I don’t yet know what to charge for the course; I want people to know what I’ve known for decades.
3 Reasons to get moving:

The longer you are inactive, the worse your health will get. Inactivity is bad for you at any age and the solution is so simple there is no good reason not to learn how to fix it now.
Common Questions Answered:
- How much activity is too little?
- How does physical inactivity affect my health?
- Do I have to be active every day?
- How active were our ancestors
- Does inactivity increase the risk of falls?
Most people have no idea how serious sedentary behaviour is and even less about how to become more active. Our bodies are designed to move, and without the stimulus physical activity gives, they deteriorate until serious health problems occur. Stop this deterioration now by learning what you can do to reverse your inactivity.
